Hamas Signals Readiness for Ceasefire Deal as Mediators Meet in Cairo

July 1, 2026

Hamas leaders met with the heads of Egyptian and Turkish intelligence in Cairo to discuss the Gaza ceasefire and broader regional developments. According to Al-Ghad, the group reaffirmed its full support for US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, while the mediators agreed to intensify efforts toward a comprehensive regional settlement.

The meeting brought together Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad, Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, and senior Hamas officials, including Gaza leader Khalil al-Hayya and political bureau chief abroad Khaled Meshaal. The discussions focused on the situation in Gaza and ways to advance ongoing mediation efforts.

Al-Ghad reported “significant optimism” surrounding the talks, which also involved mediators from Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. Hamas official Taher al-Nono said a delegation led by Zaher Jabbarin had arrived in Cairo to continue discussions with Egyptian officials on implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

According to al-Nono, the delegation’s priorities include stopping what Hamas described as growing Israeli violations, daily attacks, and assassinations in the Gaza Strip. He said the group remains committed to reaching an agreement that would end the suffering of the Palestinian population.

If the negotiations continue to progress, the mediation efforts could help advance the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and support broader diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
